Old People Camping

We had a fantastic time. I only hope not to bore you with details but some are so funny. To begin I loaded the motor home, mostly on friday but went to bed early since I was so tired. David was exhausted too. So we got a late start on Saturday. To begin we had to call Paul and ask him what to we do to light the propane fridge. We tried and tried, Absolutely could not get it to light. So we went to Pauls house and said "Can you Help us?" LOL He said well did you turn the propane on? Propane On? What a novel idea. Dummies that we are. HE lite it for us. We then took off to fill up with gas. $89. later we are on the road and happy to be going. After all that is about the price of one night in a good motel.
We arrive at Manzanita Lake and found a space. It was filling up fast. We ate sandwiches, walked to the store and realized we had not watch or clock, so we hd no idea of the time.
Next on to rest, we slept a little while, then decieded to go to the ampitheter to see a presentation on the park birds. It was COLD. So COLD. We sat as long as we could then back to the warm camper we went. Remember we walk where we are going and at 9 pm in the mountains it is really dark. Oh did I say we did not pack a regular flashlight either? We did buy one with a million candle watts but David said no that is too heavy so we are not taking it on the walks with us.
We finally get ready for bed which is no easy task when you are shivering. (we dont know how ot light the furnace, we figure we can crawl in the bed and stay warm. NOT. I shivered all night, we finally moved from the bunk to the sofa bed and not much better but OK. Morning comes with the glory of beautiful sunshine. The mobile warms up and I make breakfast, no open campfire for me Ihave an oven and all the luxuries of home. We then go to the store to shower, and it is 11 oclock. We laugh because we never sleep that long. We are so glad we had no clock or we would have felt like we should be up and moving around, instead we just rested as long as we wanted and I did sleep sound, when I could feel warm,
I have to say, THANK YOU MASHELLE FOR THE QUILT WITH THE FLANNEL BACKING !!
That quilt is the only sensible thing I took with us.
WE did have a great day though, however short, We took two walks around the lake and went to a ranger program, WE lay on the picnic tables and on the grass at Lily Pond Lake. so as you can see we did rest a lot. WE played dominoes and just enjoyed nature.
The mountains are so majestic,
Late in the day we took one more walk around the lake By the time we got back it was dark, and we had taken the 1 million watt light with us. I rigged up a carrying case. So we coudl carry it on our shoulders. The mountian turned pink at sunset. It was amazing, We saw several deer, birds, ducks, and squirrels were chattering at us. It is so quiet at sunset there is more wildlife out. We were actually within 10 feet of the deer. One White headed woodpecker, let us get within 5 feet of him and he still pecked away at the tree.
IN short we had a great weekend, Cant wait until we know more about the motor home, so we can at least be warm or cool, It also had an air conditioner. IF we can figure out how to use it when summer gets here.

Go to Paul and have him show you how to do everything. You SHOULD be able to just turn the furnace on since the propane is already on. (There shouldn't be any lighting involved, but it is an older trailer).

Glad you enjoyed your weekend on Lassen!!
