Happy Birthday Sher

I know exactly where I was 36 years ago today, I was home timing contractions, The baby was coming early, I knew this time was real. See I had 8 months of shots once a week to strengthen my uterus. Ib the two years previous I had two medical abortions, Yes it was necessary, the babies died and would not abort themselves.
I had a wonderful doctor. After the last loss he told me to get pregnant immediately, Then he would give me progestrone. I did as I was told. He, however, was going to stop delivering after the first of the year, My baby was not due until after the first of the year. I cried when he told me. He was treating me until then, then he would turn me over to an associate. One day I walked into his office, The nurses were excited, The Doctor told them He was staying on until I delivered. He would come back and deliver my baby. I was so happy. He had helped me so much in the last 4 years and I need him.
So once a week I went in for that shot, My butt had so many knots in it.
We stopped the shots at 8 months, one week later the contractions started and we were ready.
Now to make this story more interesting, My older sister was pregnant too, she was past due. In fact she should have already delivered. My baby sitters were out of town, I needed someone to watch the boys, so we did the only logical thing, We took them to her house until Joe and Daisy returned home later that day.
When we got to her house she was crying, How could I have my baby,? It was not due and she was miserable.
We leave the boys and get to the hospital, My doctor came in and said, "we are having this baby, but I want you to relax, and let it come naturally."
I spend the night wondering how soon this is going to happen.
Early the next morning a nurse comes into my room, "Would you like your sister in law in here with you, IF not we can put her somewhere else". I said I had no sister in law that would come up there, then they said her name, First name, Francis, I never called her that, so I was confused for a minute. Then it hit me,
MY Sister was now in labor, WOW, that would be neat. I told the nurse immediately "That is my sister, please bring her in here".
It was a fun time. Painful but interesting.
To make it more interesting, the two dads are brothers.
The joke around the hospital was we had a reunion 9 months earlier, being from the South and the reunion in Arkansas, they wanted to know what kind of reunions we had.
We had a great laugh.
I had a pain, she had a pain, Everything happened to each of us at the same time.
I had two sons at the time, she had two daughters and one son.
Sher being early was small, well 6 lbs 2 oz. My doctor came in and he said we would deliver around 630 that evening, As soon as he walked out of the room, Sher broke through, I yelled, get him, don't let him leave the hospital. The nurse checked and sure enough the baby's wasn't waiting until that evening.
They rushed me into delivery, HE came in smiling, said I wasn't leaving, Sher was born almost immediately, so small, dark hair, looked like she had a perfect trim on the back of her neck, and lots of angel kisses on her neck. She was perfect in every way. So tiny, but she would not cry, she wanted to curl up and continue sleeping . I kept saying she isn't crying, is she OK? The Doctor kept assuring me all was fine, she was just going back to sleep, So I would settle down they kept thumping her foot to make her cry. Then she would stop and I would panic again.
Little did I know that would be the last time she would be quiet and non demanding. Just kidding, she did know how to steal your heart, she was soft spoken, if she had something to tell you , she would get right in your face and talk, You just had to kiss that perfect face. Her dad and I laughed about it often and would deliberately get her to tell us something so she would do that. She loved her brothers and they loved their sis.
So Happy Birthday sweetie, it was worth every tear, every pain, every prayer to get you here and you do make us so proud, We are proud of the Mom and Wife you became. You now have so many titles, No longer just our baby.
Daughter, Sister, granddaughter, Mom, Wife, Cousin, Aunt, but the best is Child of God.

What a great birth story! I'm here via Sheri's blog, met her a few yrs ago on a Christian Parenting board. My mom was born in Redding, but all her dad's side of the family is from Arkansas! (Just thought that was very neat that you and my mom have some interesting similarities).

God Bless
