Easter Sunday

Oh the bustle around our house when Easter was coming, I don't recall dying many eggs, I do recall having an Easter basket though. (later in story).
The eggs we had were precious so none could be wasted. So any dying done had to be under supervision and the eggs promptly returned to the kitchen for use in the Easter meal.

We did not always get new clothes for Easter, in fact we seldom did but we did get new ribbons for our hair and we had shoe polish to polish up our shoes.
On Saturday night we all had to set down and clean up our church shoes and polish them.
I always had white shoes for church.
I do recall having a few new dresses or new to me, I think some came from the local funeral parlor, Given to them to distribute to needy families.
Every Saturday though, we did polish, not just at Easter.
If we did not have new ribbons we had to iron our old ones and make them crisp for Sunday morning.
I loved going into the 5 and 10, and picking out my ribbon color. I think I always got pink or blue.
We really did not have a huge selection and the ladies had to cut it from the spool.
I had horrible hair and I thought a ribbon was just what it needed. Tied around my head and under my hair in the back. I looked cute, ( I thought). I am sure it was a mess by the time I arrived at Church, I was too active to keep anything in place.

My Easter basket was the same every year. It was a dark brown, plastic covered something. I always had that brown basket with little color strips through it. (I wonder what ever happened to those baskets.)
Mama would fix it up for us, I don't recall how many but I do know Rosie and Jeanette had the same kind.
It was a treat to pull them out but I often wished for something that was not brown.
Something that had a little bunny or something in it, but we did have our Easter Candy. Daddy always had his Chocolate covered Cherries. For me I am sure it was a hard candy waiting for us.
Brown was my last name. I just accepted what I got and appreciated the fun of the day. A day of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and most importantly Church.
I miss those days of a house full of people.
So full we often sat on the floor. It was so much fun and we laughed so much.
The kids grabbed their plates and left the table for the adults.
That my dears was a lifetime ago.
My lifetime ago.
Have a great Easter, and be sure to read
1 Corinthians 15: 20-24.
We shall all be raised from the dead. Christ was the first. We are to follow.
