Dialect

OK I am from Arkansas, I am proud to be a Southern Girl, with all our shortened words, our laid back ways, (Well I can be if I want), Our hospitality, Our Love of Life.

However today I got the giggles over words. WORDS, Words I grew up with.

For Example as I lay there with my eyes closed I asked, "Honey how do you spell Trot line?"
(my family loved to fish and they always "Ran the trot lines") I just accepted it as a line across the river, It is so much More.

His response was "T R O U T    L I N E"
I began to laugh.
"Is that right up there with Hair-a Kin Creek?" (Hurricane) We always said harricane.
While visiting Arkansas when my Daughter was 16, We drove past a sign that said, "Hurricane Creek Bridge"
Suddenly I hear from the back seat, "Mom where did you swim as a child?" I said, "Hair I kin."
(In my slow southern drawl.)
"Mom how do you spell that?"
Suddenly the light  bulb went off, I spelled 'Hurricane"
Laughter, long and loud followed from the back seat and we followed suit. Dave and I still laugh about that one to this day.

How about this one?
Oh we only live a hoop and a holler away.
Oh we live down in Booger Holler.

Or Yonder? I had a fun time with my Baby sis when she was giving me directions.
"Sue you turn rite up yonder"
 Me "Right up yonder where?"
"Just up Yonder" she says.
Me, "Is yonder on the right or left?"
"Jeanette I do not know here Yonder is, Do I need to move over?"
By now we are laughing hysterically, she says,
"OH Sue don't make fun of the way I talk"
Me, "I'm not, I swear I'm not  but were is yonder and what do I do, Yonder can be anywhere."

So we move over, I turn, I see a parking lot.  Jeanette  says, "OK you can park right up Yonder."
Again we laugh and laugh.
Lord I miss her laughter. If only I had it on tape. OH I do, I must play that again someday soon.
When she laughed she laughed all over, when she cried she cried all over and her beautiful face would just pucker up.

I have many more but I do not want to offend, Some people are so testy. LOL
No that is not true, I just do not want to offend myself as that is mostly how I talk. I love it and I am often asked, "Where are you from, Texas?"
I quickly Respond, "Heck  No I am a Razorback, A down home, hand spanked Country girl from Arkansas, and The river bottoms to boot"
Yeah I think that is another phrase that needs more use. River Bottoms, Heck I say, "I live in Churn Creek Bottom and the sign is on my road to prove it"

Yes that is legal lingo. It is a dialect of the south and NO ONE should remove it or say,
That is improper. It is a dialect, That is what makes us unique.
Right Arkies.

Time to watch Grapes of Wrath.
That brings back memories of time past. Well long before my time, but that is how David's family came to California, Route 66, a Herd of people piled in an old broken down car, Sleeping by the roadside with mosquitos as big as birds torturing them.
Yes, Isn't Life funny?
From there and that time to Here and Now.

I Love it.
