All right I guess some members of the family say they never heard of this fiasco. While traveling to Arkansas from Oklahoma, we stopped for the night in Harrison Arkansan, We ate at the Dixie Diner, so far so good. That diner recommended the Comfort Inn right next door. It was new, so he said, NOT! But it was clean and we were exhausted and I had the beginnings of a migrain. So we stayed.
The sleep was good. So the next morning, knowing we were in small town Arkansas we prepared to go down to Breakfast. While David was dressing I noticed his Watch on the Luggage table, I thought, if I don't remind him he will forget that watch. So I deliberately did not remind. As we left the room, I saw him turn and give the door a push pull to make sure it was locked. He did not remember since it is a natural thing to do. I saw it. The door was locked.
We then went to eat, I listened to a couple of lawyers talk, and watched families come and go. I heard the clock chime 8 o'clock. I have vivid memories of that morning. The mind picks up more than you think, just get in a situation and try to relive the morning and it all comes back.
We went up to the room, passing no one in the halls, we started to open the door and noticed it was not locked. We thought it odd, thinking maybe the maids had been up and not relocked it. Everything seemed in place. I had forgotten to notice the watch, at this time, I was thinking of the door.
Now we are ready to go, I said "I better put some aspirin in my purse so I do not have to get out the bag every time I need one." I went to my purse to get the bottle, It seemed so light, then I could not find the rental car keys, They were there but not where I had put them, Then I said "Hey my wallet is not here, nor my make up bag." It was small, carrying only lipstick, gloss, compact and mascara. David and I began searching the room, he took the keys and went down and checked the car. I knew I did not lose all that as it seldom comes out of my purse.
I then called for Security, imagine my surprise when I was informed there was none. They sent two staff personal up, When I answered the door, they said, Did you lose anything else, watches, jewelry? I whirled around and said "It is gone, your watch was right here". To add I had also tried to get the police on the phone and I could not get out, The staff said to come downstairs and call the police.
When I got downstairs they were kind of smiling, Like Yeah she lost it and is now blaming us. I could literally read their minds. The did not have the police number listed, I had to call someone else to get it, like 911, which is reserved for emergencies. The staff told me that is who I contact. WRONG. You never call 911 unless it is and emergency. Now, I start calling every card we had and canceling them, I only had about 60 cents in my wallet so money was not the issue. The thieves got nothing that would help them in that category. I am OK with it, just irritated that it happened while I was traveling. I never never thought of what could happen, that is until I filled out the police report, still not being believed, The nice officer sent me to the Social security office to find out what I needed to do, to protect my number. When I walked in the clerk asked me for Identification, NOW PANIC!!! I don't have any. Then I realize , you can not fly without identification. I had flown into Oklahoma and was not sure I could fly out. David said if that happened we could rent a car and drive back, No we couldn't, we had cancelled all our cards. What a mess. I did call all credit agencies, and put a fraud alert on my SSI card.
I then walked back into the motel and said I am sitting right here until you find my wallet. They were stunned. They said , "You will probably find it, ". I said "NO I wont, it was stolen while I was here, as was my husbands watch and a make up bag. You don't just lose all that at one time."
David and I walked the grounds, we climbed on top of dumpster, we looked everywhere. They did not. I asked a maid if she had been notified, she said "No but she would inquire".
NOW I AM MAD. So angry at ignorance and lack of security and I think a key has been left out or someone saw me go down without my purse and took advantage of the situation. (By the way, when we travel, if breakfast was served in the motel, I never take my purse, Never a problem before.) Never do it again though. And we have traveled that route for 40 years.
Now the motel did nothing but charge us full price for the room, 71 dollars. I had to ask for the discounts, All we got was senior discounts.
OK I worked it all out with the traveling, California was so helpful. The best help all around with this fiasco,
I will tell you more next post.

Please tell me you got the money back and weren't charged for the hotel...I always thought they credited you.
