Retirement Day

After my post last night, I felt I should post of my adventure today.

As you all know by now I do Sell Avon, (or is it I buy Avon?)

Today my appointment was at Sierra Oaks, A beautiful Retirement home on

the outskirts of Redding. Nestled among the oaks.

A young girl of Sixteen . . . . . . .with wings on her feet.
Dreaming that soon now . .. . . a lover she'll meet.
A bride soon at Twenty . . . . . my heart gives a leap.
Remembering, the vows . . . . .that I promised to keep

Those are the words on the previous post, a poem by an elderly lady.

As I sat there talking and laughing with the ladies, I could see so much in their eyes. Some were sitting alone in a chair, feeling a little uncomfortable.
One special lady, Marge was willing to share life stories. As I answered questions and wrote orders I listened, Intently.
She was 90 years old in March. Alice was also 90 years in March. They were beautiful ladies, with sweet smiles and years of knowledge in those beautiful faces.
Marge told me how she loved to go to the USO to dance. Her boyfriend would pick her up , in his car, They had barn dances and her dad played the fiddle.
And Boy did she dance, She danced to the Big Bands. She loved it and would dance with anyone that ask.
Her boyfriend always told her to stay awake until she got home but she said, "I always fell asleep, always." Then she laughed.
She said,, "Because I danced with so many young soldiers, my older sister said I was a flirt.
I wasn't a flirt, I was young and I wanted to have fun, that is all it was, Fun."
There were several stories and I was enthralled with her talking. I tried to make each a part of the Avon party.
They were so happy that I remembered them, The ladies who once danced and sang and ran as we do.
The ladies who loved and raised children and lost.
The ladies who now need assistance, but accept their lot in life.
Ladies who once used and some Sold Avon.
Ladies, Who once again in their lives want to feel like a woman with special treatment.
I said, "You are still women you want to feel like a woman."
(As I broke into a line of Shania Twain's song,)

As I left I ran into Marge in the hallway, She said, "You made a lot of ladies happy today, I hope you know you did a good thing."
What a good feeling I had. I walked away knowing I had given a ray of sunshine to a rather dull existence. They all look forward to the next time.
I learned Beauty Shop day is the best day of the week for these ladies.
Thank you Debbie, (activities director) Who hugged me and thanked me profusely.
She was there to talk, help them and supply drinks to everyone.

I so look forward to returning.
I would love more stories, I bet I get them too, Just someone to listen to their Hearts memories.
