Lawn

While at the nursery today, I asked a young man if he also planted lawns. (He offered on Saturday to help plant trees). He said yes I do, he came over at 5 when he got off and now we have seed in our yard. Yeah yeah, gonna have grass, gonna have grass, (no not weed, grass) the good stuff, not the other stuff. LOL
As you all know we work from daylight to dark, We are so exhausted when night comes and we had to get the seed out while it was warm enough to germinate. Not enough time to do that plus get the pool ready plus get the plants out, plus get the trees planted, Plus get the sails out of the rock, where Mark took the mobile out. He just threw the nails on the gound, when he removed the porch. But it is now mostly done. OH yes he came and got the porch this week.
Now we have to get the electric in the ground and imagine this, The electric that runs to the mobile pad is not underground wire, Wo we have to buy underground wire and get it into conduit. Ronnie said he will help us. Then we have to bury it. What a mess. While the mobile was there it was under the mobile so it was not an issue. Well it is now, the pipe is busted and the wire is showing. scares me.
Charles wanna come down and spend a week with us and help out. Hey I know you are busy, but what a chance to get tiem with your mom and dad, you know the old folks. It would be wonderful and we could buy your ticket.
Now for tomorrow, Ken is on his way down with help to get the pool ready for water, actually put water in it and back fill it and plumb it and get the equipment ready for the hot tub. The hot tub is coming Tuesday. Yeah Again. We can use it this winter. Gonna be great, jsut freexe our tushes off from the tub to the bedroom but I bet it will help our bones. And make us relax. God is good.
I also have an order for cinnamon rolls, The old car club is buying 36, so I am up at 4 to start. Keep your fingets crossed that it all turns out good/ You know rise and cook right and taste heavenly.
I may make apricot fried pies too. LOL

Memories

Are so fleeting, some little or big thing can jog a long lost memory. I purchased my cousins book, "Looking back to See." What great memories are coming back. I remember seeing Elvis Presley photo at the Supper Club, I remember them saying he often came to the club to eat, He loved my Aunt Birdies cooking.
I remember the night we went to the show, the first time J E and Maxine sang. I remember my Dad yelling "JE turn the mike up, we cant hear you back here., JE then said OK Uncle LOYD, Remember we were country and we were in a little country place. I remember Shelby and Mary Jane show on Radio. Wow, What a great time, I did not even know what was happening. So you all have a rich background in Country.

Vic Hannah

Did mention that he is my favorite landscape provider. Must be, they are on their way once again with a load of sand. Hey, I may have mentioned, the drivers tell me they set their trucks on cruise and they just know the way here. LOL Since we moved in we have had no less then 10 truck loads of rock hauled. That is a truck and transfer. 2 loads of sand, Truck and transfer. What a job, Your dad had the guys out today, moving sand so he would not have to move so much.
Hey it takes a lot of time to get a place in shape, and ours is shaping up very nicely. You all know how we are, gotta be looking good. Gotta be neat and organized. WE still have lots to move, lots to rake, lots to haul off, lots to clean. We really do not mind, but I cant seem to get my share done. I feel lost when he is out there working hard and I cant help. One thing i can not do is shovel. Now that hurts my chest. So Ken I am out of the running this weekend to move sand. I can rake, that hurts my neck, upper arms and upper back, but I can take lots of aspirin and keep going. I can not sit still long.
We also have to get the lawn in, gotta gotta get that done, While we still have warm weather to germinate the seed.
so much to do, so little time.
Anyway Vic is a nice guy, and not bad to look at either. Must be why I go there. Just kidding.
Love You all MOM

Paradise and Memories

Today I am sitting here with my coffee, wishing for spring. Yes I know it is barely fall but I do nto deal well with cool weather. I am watching the grass grow in our lawn, not real grass just weed grass. We cant seem to get organized to get the good stuff planted. We do have a 25 lb bag at the front doot just begging to be planted. Well guess what else we need? We need Master Start fertilize and a thin layer of mulch to put on top. Not that we do not have dirt here, we just need specail dirt.
I can understand that. Every morning I see no less than a hundred birds pecking in our yard. Remember them Sher, They came in the fall. Magpies, Geese, and tons of black birds, you name it, the fall birds are here. If we had our seed in, they would have a feast.
Today I have 3 appointments, one to light the fireplace, one to light the furnace and one to fix the good old tractor. I have certainly got my moneys worth from that contract. Bet they have been here, 10 times. Small things but I dont know how to fix it. Today it is something hitting the mower when the blades run. Probably not dangerous but it bugs me. Remember I can hear anything and smell anything, Now seeing, that is another thing.
I sure hope you all have a great day. I miss all of you so much, and this weekend I get to see my little men and a lady, oh yes Ken and Kris too . LOL Those boys love their Mamaw and Papaw. It is always a pleasure to see them coming, Kind of like my Grandma and Grandpa must have felt when we drove up in the 50s. Sure loved my grandparents. He drank, she was not a house keeper but I Loved to see them. What great memories. Time on the Quachita River, playing under a big house. Seeing all the fish they caught, eating lots of catfish. Getting teased by my many uncles. I was nicknamed Grandma, because I lost all my front teeth at once, well within days of each other, I looked funny. IN fact just a few years ago, my Uncle Hugh, said "Didn't I call you Grandma?" I said "Yes you did and I am still gonna get you for that" He Laughed and laughed. Things that happen when we are kids stay with us. I sure hope we gave you good memories, we tried. family time was important to us. Not David and Me time, that was few and far between. My best memories are with you kids.

falling

I swear if I fall one more time, I have been so clumsy lately. YOu all know that is not something I do. I fell on the cement while taking the photo of the praying mantis. Literally threw my new camera trying to get my balance. No big deal, just could not keep my balance. I fell again while Paul and Nancy were here, I literlly did the splits in the middle of the floor, my feet are bothering me and I was trying to protect my foot and instead hurt my butt. Today I was scurrying to get a photo of Geese flying over, I again lost my footing and fell all over the office. At first it was funny, now it is getting irritating. Hate being clumsy. I guess I better slow down.
No, I am not usually clumsy, and do not want attention nor am I a hypochondriac, Just hurry too much I guess. So much to do, so little time.

Pool Fence

Is almost in, the installer will be back today to finish up. He had to make the gates, It is turning out really nice. I will post photos later.
In addition I had yet another load of limestone hauled in. Your dad is moving it by wheelbarrow full. We are putting it around the perimeter of the yard. There is a lot to do but time is what we have and our time is spent on our place. As soon as David got home yesterday, (he did not even stop to Pee. LOL,) He immediately started the rock moving. He has been anxious to see how it will look. That is his project, and I had nothing to do with it, so dont blame me for finding something for him to do. He loves making the place look great, and is anxious for the next phase.
Now if Mark will only get that rest of the lumber out of here, It is the old porch he said he wanted, as of now it is just lying on the ground by the mobile pad, with tons of nails in it. I told him we had grandsons that visited and he needed to get it out of here or we are burning it. Hey it is almost burn season, YEAH. Love to light fires. At least Ronnie thinks I do.
Ken when are you going to post? I keep looking for new information.

Tuesday Morning

Today is going to be great. I tell myself that every morning, especially when it starts cooling off. This weather hurts my bones. My rib cage now hurts, guess that will get arthritis too, Since they cracked it open to get to my heart. Yuck! sounds awful. It is only 67 degrees in the house and I do not have my heating stystems charged up yet. Yet another thing to put on my list.
On my today list is planting flowers, I bought more alyssum and pansies to plant by the front door entry and 2 more lavender plants. The first thing a person sees when coming to your house is your front entry, keep it neat and inviting. It should say "someone who loves nature or life or whatever your theme is, lives here" That has always been my philosophy.

Oh yes, Mashelle I got the birth certificate for you. I will get it in the mail today. Josh should have it by the end of the week.
We finally ate the last of the lasagne I made last week, We got three good meals out of it, Made a lot less cooking for me when we can do that. It was still great. In fact it was as good as fresh. Mashelle I will bring your pesto to you when we come up.

Girls go to the store and buy basil, put it in a glass of fresh water, change it every couple of days, You can then plant it and grow your own bush. Really, well I guess it will from store varieties. I can mine when I pick it. I simply have to reach to the cabinet to have fresh basil whenever I want it. Plus it is a great room freshener.lOL

Garage Sale

Well Sheri the kids made a little money on the sale. I have to tell you though. A little boy about 8 gathered up all Gs dinosaurs and sea animals, He had them in his shirt. I kept telling David I cant let them go. I just cant. I remember how much G loved them. Especially the (Wizard ) lizard with the long tail. I told the little boy that was the only things he could not have. He spent a couple of hours here looking and playing with stuff. He was visiting the family in the house at the corner. We finally told him he had to go home. We worked on our bridge and flower bed while waiting for customers, not knowing our sign had been taken down. LOL.
It was a pretty good day though. We Did not even leave the house all day Saturday or Sunday. . Got to think winter is coming and we want to sit inside by the fire all winter. Maybe I can even get some sewing done.
Today is my running around day, I have my list ready so Josh's birth certificate is on my list. As I said before I hate going to town, I love being this far out saves a lot of gas, since I am more prone to plan ahead.

The First Cup

Of coffee in the morning is so good. Especially when it is getting cold outside. Today I had such a healthy breakfast, Coffee, Milk and Banana Bread. Yum.
I love going to Safeway and buying the bulk coffee beans. I mix all the decaf flavors in a bag then grind them as I need them. I have a very unique flavor every time, since I do not know what ratio I use. Vanilla Nut Bean, Hazelnut or whatever, but never a regular flavor. I only wish they had more flavors. I did go to Winco and bought one time, (they have lots of decaf flavors) but not a lot of flavor to their beans.
Safeway told me they are remodeling in Anderson and will carry more then. I know the remoded is going in because Walmart super center is just up the street. The progress on that is going fast too.
Cant wait.

Pesto Is

Wonderful, Your dad and I have almost made ourselves sick on it. I made fresh pesto with basil, pine nuts, parmasean, and olive oil. Wow is the only word for it. I have never had fresh that I can remember/ Now is there a way to bottle it and send it to you kids? I will see if I can. Tomorrow I am making purple pesto sauce. I bought Purple basil this year and it is huge. So be on the look out for purple pesto.

Garage Sales Are

So much work, I worked last night until I could barely crawl into the house. We finally ate a subway sandwich at 7 oclock, then back to folding more clothes. We have been slow but I expect Saturday to be busier. I have made about 50 dollars, wanted more but not bad since I was going to donate that stuff anyway. still not sure what to do with the big old roll top desk. Your dad wishes some of you would take it. But I would not recommend it since it is so heavy.
I have never seen so many toys. I had no idea I had that many on hand, and I did not own one of them, with the exception of the wonder horse. Sher you made a little bit but not too many toys are selling today.
Tomorrow is another day.

Late Night

Well it is after 9 and I am stilll up. I think I over did today so my body refuses to settle down.
I have been cleaning the old garage and setting up the garage sale. I did not realize we had that much stuff to sell. Oh well, now we need buyers. My next step is to go to Kens storage unit and get more stuff that Sher and Mike put in there when clearing out theirs. Hope it is something I can handle alone. I am so sore and my neck hurts and causes this horrible headache again. must be like a bad disc. gee wonder why. But life goes on and I intend to live it to the fullest.
I did set up the old computer for your dad, now to get the old information transferred to this one. Hey Kris do you have a floppy drive and a writeable cd drive to transfer this information for us? We put it on a floppy and you put it from there to a CD. Oh well I tried.
Tomorrow is a new day and I must find a way to cook for two. I am so tired of quickie foods. we did have chicken pot pie tonight but all I had was our number one veggie in it, Squash. yeah Squash. I did not have the recommended mixed veggies. so I took something I knew i had lots of to flavor the dish.
Anyone know of good recipes for basil. I have the purple and green varieties. And lots of it. Did you know if you put basil in a vase of water, on your counter, it will root and you can have fresh basil at you fingertips? It is really good in vegetables. I cook it in squash. did you know there are numerous ways to cook squash and there are several varieties/ Last night we had butternut squash with cinnamon and brown sugar. That was good.
Today one of davids co workers, Liz came out here. She took a bunch home plus basil, and mexican parsley and hot peppers. Plus she took squash blossoms. She is from Guatamala, and she told me how she fixes them. I may try it , she puts them in a flour tortilla with any cheese and grills it. Sounds good. Plus she makes her own salsa. We may go in to gether next year and go to the farmers markets. She is very nice and really wants to help.
Well it is getting later so I will say Goodnight.
Goodnight all, sleep tight, Dont let the bed bugs bite.

Good Tuesday to All

Today is a Wonderful day to be alive. The sun is shining and the temp is around 80. could not be more perfect. I have been picking up rock and pulling weeds and knocking the side of a building down. Wasp were not happy with me. Plus stipping beds and laundry. I slept lot yesterday so I did not get much done in the house. In fact I probably slept around 16 hours total. You know when I am tired I stop. Dead still, and just rest. That is one thing I do for me. NOw I need to cook a good meal for your dad tonight, and am at a loss as to what to cook. I would love more lasagna but I do not have the necessary ingredients. So Chicken it is. Maybe a good cake too. Some fresh peas and maybe a butternut squash. Several in the garden and I need to use them.
The new computer is catching on. However we still need to figure out how to load all the information from the old one to this one, and payday is coming on Thursday. Better do something fast. Maybe he will have to use the old one for a while. That means I hve to set it up by tomorrow.

computer

We did finally get a computer, it is a Median, with Windows, XP. We hear it is a good one, Suer hope it is the last one we have to buy. We just could not take a chance that your dads was going ot go out at tax time, or at payroll time or really at any time.

Dinner

Is great when someone calls and says I am bringing Lasagna, do you have a salad? David and I worked outside all day. About 3 we sat down for a drink and a little rest, Nancy called. she had dinner for us. What a great treat. We both ate like we had not eaten in a week. actually we had not had lasagna for at least a year, Sheri always made it and I just do not take the time. She knew we had lots of work to do, they came out and looked the place over. They said we were making a lot of headway. It seems slow to us sometime, expecially since we want it all done yesterday.
One project we are working on is a little bridge banister beside the irriagation pipe, You know the one that runs under the road at the front of the property. We have the post and boards and paint, It seems like a relatively easy project for us. So tomorow we bury the post in cement. then I get to nail and paint. It will look good. Hey if it seems like there is not enough to do I will invent something. Just ask your Dad.
Paul did show your dad how to light the furnace and hot water tank. Now we hope to get away to Shasta Lake in a couple of weeks, Lord knows we need to get more rest. Next weekend I am planning a garage sale. I have loads to sell. 4 bags of baby clothes. Plus lots of toys and lots of stuff. Just general stuff.
Anyway girls keep your fingers crossed that the sale goes well. I hate yard sales, well if I am the one doing the selling. I am poor at asking people for money. I feel chintzy selling something I do not even want. But It needs donw.
Hey Ken I would love to park in my garage. Do you think we can bring your furniture down soon? We almost have roomto park, I have cleaned and cleaned to prepare for the yard sale.
Anyway kiddos, have a great day tomorrow .

New Computer and Baking

Well it has to happen, This thing makes the most awful noises and it grinds all time. I sit here irritated at the sound, just want quiet.
Remember I bought a digital camera, well I cant load any photos because it wont let me do anything. It just sits there saying something about USB port I think. anyway I have tried and tired so now I quit.
So on to the next topic. Today I am so hungry for real food, nothing fast like tacos or steak , I want roast. so today I took out the roast and could nto get them apart, yes 2 of them, so I am cooking both, they will freeze nicely for sandwiches for Davids lunch. I am also making home made yeast rolls. YUMMMMM Cant wait until they are done, who knows maybe that is all I will eat. Now I need aa good dessert, I have been checking my cook books for homemade cakes, scratch since I do not have any mixes. any ideas, Girls.

Digital

Ok I did it, I bought a digital camera. It is really nice. Now I need to learn how to use it. Krissssss I need help. LOL, It is a Minolta Dimage x-50. I tried to take a photo of the house and I have the software loaded. I also took a photo of the motor home. I will get it done as soon as possible. It also records voice and movies, did not know that was possible. On a digital and the price was good. It is a 5 pixel. Sheri said that was really good. Me I know nothing, still not too literate.
I may be calling for help.

DMG

One beautiful summer day, we took a trip to Lassen. Do you remember? We took a picnic lunch and D,M and G. As we toured the lake and went wading, we noticed a huge amount of trees down in the park, like devastation. We saw tepees of branches stacked ready to burn, . We were so amazed at the tepees. Now I know those are specifically stacked like that to burn in one small area and not harm any trees or landscape around it. (I found that out this weekend.) While we were walking We let the kids climb downed trees, and at one tree, They walked the log and then dropped out of sight, the tree had a huge hole in it to climb down to the ground. That tree is still there. We saw many hung on their limbs when they fell. Several looked lake big bugs. One such tree is at the edge of Manzanita Lake, it looks like bleached bones of some huge monster bug from Jurassic period. I believe G pointed that out. I have several photos of the kids at the park, one of G with his pants falling off, and showing so much bottom. Very cute. At that time was when G had lost his baby fat, and nothing quite fit him. We then got around to a very clear shallow part of the lake, G and M wanted to wade, I let them but only holding my hand. We then got to the waterfall, which is nothing more than the lake spilling over rocks under a bridge. We again let them play on the rocks. It was a great day. I think we wore them out and I know they wore us out. So this weekend brought back all those memories and they were bitter sweet. Sad but a memory we hold forever, so to each of you kids thank you for the time you allow us with our grandchildren, we hope to build memories to last them a lifetime. So many grandparents do not have the communication we have with ours.

How many more

I am not trying to sound doomed or what ever you may call it, It was a thought. As we were walking around the lake, David was behind me. I sometime forget to slow down, because at times he is really slow. David said " I wonder how many more times we can take our walks". It was a legitimate question or statement. We have always loved our walks together, When working, it became a way to communicate. We would walk and talk out the problems of the job. And yes, even how to deal with an issue with you children. So how many more? Only God knows. (We accept the fact that in a few short years he will be 70 and in less than One year, will be 60. Sounds old or used to sound old, but my mind refuses to grow up.) That statement caused us to stop and take inventory of our lives. The times we took you all to Lassen and how you complained of the long walk to Bumpuss Hell, The odors of the sulphur pots, or the smoke from the campfire. But we also remembered the laughter, that laughter still rings in our minds. We did have great times and we tried to give each of you a well rounded life. Travel, camping, good friends and our love. Our un-conditional love. Most importantly the Love of God in your life and how he can see you through all problems. He is and has always been in charge of our lives and now in our Golden years, We can only thank him for his gift of life each day. We, both of us, have reason to thank God for each day. So our walks will go on , as long as we possibley can. You children will take walks for us and remember our love for each other and you..What would life be without any of the above. Our best pictures are of you children taken with our memory , and stored forever in our inner-vision. So to reinterate, This was a thought from you Dad. How many more walks?

Old People Camping

We had a fantastic time. I only hope not to bore you with details but some are so funny. To begin I loaded the motor home, mostly on friday but went to bed early since I was so tired. David was exhausted too. So we got a late start on Saturday. To begin we had to call Paul and ask him what to we do to light the propane fridge. We tried and tried, Absolutely could not get it to light. So we went to Pauls house and said "Can you Help us?" LOL He said well did you turn the propane on? Propane On? What a novel idea. Dummies that we are. HE lite it for us. We then took off to fill up with gas. $89. later we are on the road and happy to be going. After all that is about the price of one night in a good motel.
We arrive at Manzanita Lake and found a space. It was filling up fast. We ate sandwiches, walked to the store and realized we had not watch or clock, so we hd no idea of the time.
Next on to rest, we slept a little while, then decieded to go to the ampitheter to see a presentation on the park birds. It was COLD. So COLD. We sat as long as we could then back to the warm camper we went. Remember we walk where we are going and at 9 pm in the mountains it is really dark. Oh did I say we did not pack a regular flashlight either? We did buy one with a million candle watts but David said no that is too heavy so we are not taking it on the walks with us.
We finally get ready for bed which is no easy task when you are shivering. (we dont know how ot light the furnace, we figure we can crawl in the bed and stay warm. NOT. I shivered all night, we finally moved from the bunk to the sofa bed and not much better but OK. Morning comes with the glory of beautiful sunshine. The mobile warms up and I make breakfast, no open campfire for me Ihave an oven and all the luxuries of home. We then go to the store to shower, and it is 11 oclock. We laugh because we never sleep that long. We are so glad we had no clock or we would have felt like we should be up and moving around, instead we just rested as long as we wanted and I did sleep sound, when I could feel warm,
I have to say, THANK YOU MASHELLE FOR THE QUILT WITH THE FLANNEL BACKING !!
That quilt is the only sensible thing I took with us.
WE did have a great day though, however short, We took two walks around the lake and went to a ranger program, WE lay on the picnic tables and on the grass at Lily Pond Lake. so as you can see we did rest a lot. WE played dominoes and just enjoyed nature.
The mountains are so majestic,
Late in the day we took one more walk around the lake By the time we got back it was dark, and we had taken the 1 million watt light with us. I rigged up a carrying case. So we coudl carry it on our shoulders. The mountian turned pink at sunset. It was amazing, We saw several deer, birds, ducks, and squirrels were chattering at us. It is so quiet at sunset there is more wildlife out. We were actually within 10 feet of the deer. One White headed woodpecker, let us get within 5 feet of him and he still pecked away at the tree.
IN short we had a great weekend, Cant wait until we know more about the motor home, so we can at least be warm or cool, It also had an air conditioner. IF we can figure out how to use it when summer gets here.

You Guess

Bet you cant guess what i have been doing all morning! No not that silly kids. I have been stacking stuff to go to the motor home. I do need several of the items i was gonna sell, sure glad I did not have the garage sale yet. I cant believe how much storage I have in there, but I am going to try to keep it to a minimum, just enough to get away for the weekend, and relax. No cooking or cleaning or raking rocks or picking squash, or laundry, Nothing but a relaxing chair and sleep under the trees in the mountains. All day and all night.
I must remember to pack my dominoes. We play that often Ken, Thanks for that. The cards how do you play that game you were gonna teach us. We really are just gonna relax. Did you all know we have not had a break since January of last year. That is when we transferred the property to our name and got started on rebuilding. Now it is time for us to kick back and rest. And we are gonna do it , Bet you dont believe that.
I called Bill Gregory to fix our driveway for us, your dad does not need to shovel that much rock. It happens to be 2 double truck and trailer loads. Limestone road base. Will look nice when it is level, right now it is hilly and bumpy, looks awful. Clay and Marie told us we needed to get it fixed. LOL
Oh yes they also told us we need lights with motion sensors put on our house. Yes like that is going to happen. I do not want my new house drilled into all over. We will figure out something, I am thinking, pathway lights, and no not the solar kind. I want light not dim lighting bug light.
I pray all of you have a safe and happy holiday weekend.

YAHOO

It is gone, the mobile is gone. This is in case some of you do not read your mail.
I just called the county and spoke to Les Wood. He as been our inspector through all this building process. He was elated to hear the good news. Les is coming out today after 2 pm. Now for another hurdle, We may have to unhook and fill in the old septic, We hope not but if he says to, we are not gonna try to keep it. Enough is enough with that space on the property.
It will require lots of work to keep it anyway, When they put in the line for the travel trailer, someone put the lines on top of the ground in places, that means we have to dig down and bury all those lines, Not a task we are up to. But we will if nothing more is said of the septic. Admittedly it would be nice to keep it, since we have the restroom in the garage. That is going to be called the work shop from this day forward.
So today if I have time I will be purchasing the digital camera and take photos, so all can see the progress. In addition we have the progress of the pool going in. Got to take photos of that process too.
Have a great day, to all of you.
