The second photo was taken by a couple walking in our park.
First, well I had to goof off. When David got ready to shoot, I jumped at him.
Today we had to get away. I woke to the sun shining. It was a gorgeous day.
After I finally opened my eyes, ( I kept them shut as long as possible while mumbling, I do not want to wake up yet) I turned to David and said, "Lets go to the snow today"
I only had to say it once. He was Ready, No hesitation.
We finally got up, I called Gwena to invite her along. She could not go with us, but really wanted to.
She was just buried under work at home.
I told her "Next time we will give more notice. Not just an hour."
We ate our Malt O Meal, loaded some bread, fruit, water and pretzels and away we go.
(In the Mustang, it holds the road really well).
When we reached Viola the road was appearing wet. We knew it had snowed recently.
As we approached the park entrance, (48 miles from home) we saw lots of snow. It was beautiful.
By now we had driven over several miles of salted roads. My car was now red and white. (White from the salt.)
We took photos and went on into the park. A Ranger motioned us in and told us the road was closed one mile in. That was OK we only wanted the Manzanita Lake area anyway.
The parking lot was so cold. Icy everywhere, ice crystals on the snow, and a cold wind blowing.. However, the rest rooms were warm. I stood for a few minutes with my face under the hand dryer to warm my nose.
We walked to the lake from the main lot and began a walk around the lake.
We decided that was too cold for us. We did spend about an hour out there, just enjoying nature and the quiet.
We were treated to bongo drums being played by a young man. It was a beautiful sound in the quiet, and the echos of the mountain.
We walked up to the store, (which is closed off season) and we saw, Cabins.
Yes Cabins! They are so cute. The cabins are still on the trailers.
They are very rustic , I think I counted 18, total. Some are bunk house like, with 8 bunks in them, some are a main room with one bedroom and some are just main rooms. All very small, maybe 15 feet long as the longest. Some are smaller but all are equally cute. We already have plans to stay up there next summer.
Ken, are you and your family game with a bunk house to sleep in?
I have to show the children my Lassen, My place of tranquility.
The kids will LOVE it.
No sleeping outside, we can actually lock the kids in at night. NO chance of them wandering off. We can go to fireside shows, They can become junior Rangers.
We had a wonderful day. Walking in the snow around part of the lake, picnicking in the snow and just forgetting all our worries.
We did recall just one month ago, we were there with family. We missed them today and wished it had snowed for them. Or not.
I have several photos, Lets see if they post OK.
