It was suggested I post about one of my teen experiences.
I was a sheltered Southern girl. Sheltered and threatened. LOL
I was about 16 and dating a boy I met at a hamburger hang out.
I knew of his family as my older sister dated his brother about 5 years earlier.
We had several dates. I thought he was nice, easy to talk to and a darn good kisser.
So on one of our dates, after a few minutes of smooching, He asked the question, One I did not understand. One I was scared of, and uneasy being so stupid.
Question, "Do you play ball?"
HUH???? My mind is whirling, "Baseball, football, What ball, or does he mean something else?"
My mind is confused. I sat for a few minutes before responding,
I bet he thought "OH Boy she is going to say YES?"
I replied. "You know I think you should take me home now."
That was it, nothing more.
I got out and left him sitting in the car. A walk to the door was not necessary.
I walked in. My Mom was sitting in her chair sewing or watching television or doing both.
I am sure she was also praying I would be OK on my date. (she was very protective).
As I walked in she said, 'You are early, something happen?" I then went through the evening and told her of my confusion. I also took some responsibility as I know I liked to kiss way too much.
She began laughing, and laughing. She then explained that is what some guys call their parts. (How was I to know, I was a virgin and knew nothing of men parts).
We had a wonderful time just her filling me in on more information on the birds and bees.
OK 16 is quite old to have to do that but I was a tomboy so I was not into those words and I ran with the nice crowd at school. Girls with dignity and proud of it.
Suddenly there is a knock on the door, and we see his shadow on the window shade.
I ran to the bedroom. Mama answered the door.
He apologized but said he had wrecked his car in the curve about half a mile from our house and could he get a ride home?
Mama woke my older brother who drove him home and tried to help him out.
When it was all over, My Moms words to me.
"Carolyn Sue what did you do to that boy to make him have a wreck?'
We laughed and laughed about that for years.
One day about 25 years later she wanted to buy some peas to put in her freezer.
She told me he had a truck patch and sold them. I drove her to his house.
He walked out in overalls, and looked the part of a broken down farmer.
He loaded the peas in my trunk and I introduced myself. He seemed to have forgotten.
Right!!! Like he really forgot, He was embarrassed.
As we drove away, Mama began laughing again, "Sue I could never see you married to a farmer, sitting on a porch shelling peas, and generally being a farm hand."
You know I never thought of that until that day. I do not think I would have fared well as a farmers wife. I love the outdoors and I love my gardening but to make a living at it. NA Not for me.
I am one of those that require attention and love and I return that love and attention.
Can't very well do that in the fields and on a tractor all day.
Of course that is why the Lord made the world so versatile. We are all different but we are all children of God.
I thank God for my innocence, I am still innocent in a lot of worldly ways. I am proud of it. I can redden pretty easily at jokes or someones choice of language.
I have to ask, "What does that mean?"
One word I have problems with is "Fricking" That is a by word for the other F word. Same as Darn is for D. Spit is for S. You think it but think saying the by word gets you by.
Maybe, but I have a problem with it, I say Darn a lot, and I work on my language. I certainly never want to offend anyone or cause anyone to question my integrity.
