As She sat in the living room, totally unwinding, He walked in.
His face showed a lot of distress.
What was up, David was seldom distressed to this point.
Sue looked up and asked. "Are you OK?"
She hears a "Yes, but I want to ask "Am I ugly?"
What???? Are you kidding me?"
Sue laughingly said "Yes you are."
He said "OK I just wanted to know what you thought."
Sue was dumbfounded. This year was 50 years of marriage and Never had she heard that come from him. David was always sure of himself, (or seemed to be)
He was always saying "Just how good looking he was." How he was convinced and not conceited."
He just had an air of confidence of his looks.
Sue told him, "Honey, NO you are NOT ugly, Not at all,"
It was settled She thought. But night thoughts kept her awake most of the night.
Why now? Why this question? Why did he suddenly feel so ugly?"
At Breakfast the next day Sue said,
"Honey sit down, I want to discuss the question of last night."
He sat and listened as his and her eyes filled with tears.
"Honey you will never win Mr. Best Looking Man of the year, Never win Mr. Universe, but that is not who you are. I fell in love with your gentle look, your sweet nature, Your bright blue eyes, Your warmth and as your Grandson said, "Papaw has an easy smile".
Do you not see me staring at you at times? (Like I was 17 again) Do you not notice I can not keep my hands off at times? Do you not know how you look to me is Magnificent?"
I never look at the outside of a person, I guess I never have. I see beyond they face, beyond the dirty or worn clothes, deep into the spirit, the eyes.
I just LOVE the difference God created in all of us.
And You,Sweetheart, top the list of Love, compassion and Forgiveness and Tender heart."
I Love you for you and How you let God guide your life.
Mistakes? Yes we make them but You are a leader in forgiveness and compression. You have taught me to make slower decisions and really look beyond the moment."
When our children were home, David would say to them, while making runs on the weekend." Hey Ken, Charles or Sheri, that guy is ugly, do you think we should stop and tell him, He may not know."
This was a weekly game. The kids came home laughing at Dad.
Me I detest the word ugly, it carries so many intonations.
No one is ugly, they may not be pretty but they are creations of God. They have a soul. That is my thoughts on UGLY. A horrible word.
David you are Beautiful. Beautiful, not handsome, but Beautiful as your Sister, Wynell always said.

Of course he's not! An ugly person couldn't have such an amazingly gorgeous daughter...
Sher,
You are adopted, I know I told mom we would never tell you, but I just can't keep the secret anymore. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
your "Brother"
Charles
